Error when creating new git repository

Currently using Mac OS running Mountain Lion. I am attempting to create a new git repository through the command line. I enter "git init newfile" .

I receive this error:

dyld: lazy symbol binding failed: Symbol not found: ___strlcpy_chk Referenced from: /usr/local/git/bin/git Expected in: /usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib

However; when I check to see if git is installed by running the command "git --version". I receive the response "git version 1.9.0"

Install command line tools from xCode. Open xCode and hit command+',' (or just go to Xcode in left top corner -> Preferences) and click Downloads. Install command line tools.
