15,300 PointsRequest for a new Track/Course set (AR/VR), is there any interest?
Hey everyone (and Treehouse staff),
I have an interest in getting into the AR (Augmented Reality) space, though perhaps VR might draw more interest. Either way, both spaces are emerging and although a few sdk's and basic tutorials exist, it would be really cool to have a detailed and well documented course set or full Track from Treehouse in this. It flows right with app development as a possible next step (Heavy Android and iOS integration) and heck, I would upgrade my subscription to have access to such a thing. It is still emerging as a field and really so few good resources in a "Tree House" style exist. Would be a great way to differentiate Treehouse from competition as well.

20,207 PointsI think it's a really interesting idea, although I wouldn't mind seeing more resources from Treehouse for general game development first, perhaps a Unity track. Have you come across any engines or SDKs that you would want them to cover in particular? Oculus seems like a good SDK to cover.

15,300 PointsI think Oculus is cool but my personal interest is in AR. There are a few SDK's I have been reading about like Metaio but the tech is all so new that in-depth dev. guides seem simply to not exist yet. I am also learning Unity along with treehouse content. However, there are almost too many Unity tutorials out, either from unity.com, youtube, places like udemy or just google. I would love to see general game dev tutorials on Treehouse but then you run into issues like what language, platform, engine, etc... too many options to focus well I think... Some people want to get up and running with an engine as quick as possible, some want to learn how to build a physics engine from the ground up... I think there is just too much content to cover (Unless they had say a mobile game course for android like an angry birds clone to get people started after learning android basics)
On the other hand AR is not something people really offer yet. The other issue with VR is it requires about $350 to get started (Oculus Dev kit 2) whereas AR has heavy support already for android and iOS, phones which almost everyone has on them.

Courses Plus Student 113 PointsI am also very interested in a AR/VR track. I have an idea that I want to give life to and that's why I want to learn AR and VR development. Hope TreeHouse will come up with a Track specifically for AR and VR soon.
