Chief Revenue Officer (CRO)

Overview

As a member of the Executive Team, this role is essential to the success of the business. Responsible for developing the strategy and operations for Treehouse’s subscription and monetization business and interfacing with internal and external partners to achieve a leading market position. Reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Responsibilities

The CRO ensures strong revenue streams by building relationships and working collaboratively to coordinate efforts throughout the organization. This includes maintenance of traditional revenue sources, business development (such as development of a B2B business), and establishment of new partnerships.

  • Ensures that revenue-generating strategies align with the company’s overall strategy and direction.

  • Forges valuable partnerships with new businesses to unlock B2B opportunities.

  • Balances short-term and long-term strategies in order to excite customers and drive subscription sales through great product experiences.

  • Sets and translates vision and strategy into actionable plans. Drives accountability and results.

  • Manages the work of team members in sales- and marketing-related functions. Provides support, feedback, and ongoing coaching to enable the team to win through a positive, development-focused style of leadership.
    Uses the right levers to impact profitability, market share, and customer loyalty.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated thought leader within the educational technology and content monetization industry.

  • Strong leadership / management experience, preferably a mix of: (1) Experience in technology (for best practices) and (2) experience in a startup environment.

  • Strong mix of online and/or offline subscription sales experience.

  • Strong experience increasing both consumer and enterprise revenue

  • Exposure or experience with the business development and marketing functions within an online subscription business model.

  • Deep understanding of digital media and subscription.

  • Proven success managing a large team through managers.

  • Demonstrated success in growing business revenue (i.e. from $10MM to $100MM).

  • Stays abreast of development in technologies, consumer behaviors and developing models.

  • Must have a strategic view regarding how current subscription model contributes to the broader organizational agenda.

  • Able to develop effective relationships across the organization and build alignment and integration with projects.

  • Proven success in managing diverse and dispersed (remote) teams, including the ability to align on a vision, understand resource capability and successfully drive results.

  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, humble, collaborative.

  • Must be a results-driven self-starter; think creatively and laterally.

  • Effectively balance short-term and long-term strategies in order to excite customers and drive subscription sales.

  • Must thrive under the pressure of constant change.

  • Demonstrated willingness to take risks and state personal opinions even when facing opposition.

  • Ethical standards are paramount.
