Director of Data and Analytics

As Treehouse and its store of valuable data grows, we’re looking for a Director of Data and Analytics to lead both the data team and the data vision. You’d be leading a remote, cross-functional team of data scientists, data architect, and engineers, interfacing with our executive team, and coordinating closely with our infrastructure team. And you’d be guiding Treehouse’s choices around data architecture, engineering, and analytics as we scale.

The Director of Data and Analytics would be proficient at balancing complex considerations (accessibility, cost, storage, efficiency, effort) and making thoughtful data infrastructure and engineering decisions to take Treehouse gracefully into the future. And s/he would be a natural team leader, coordinating the efforts of the data team, project-managing their deliverables, and fostering their professional growth.

• Manages the Data and Analytics team to deliver core reporting as required by the executive team, conduct research, identify trends and best practices, and provide synthesized results in the form of dashboards and reports.
• Leads the vision and implementation of Treehouse’s data architecture, warehousing, and reporting capabilities.
• Ensures that Treehouse’s data management practices are consistent with current industry practices.
• Assesses and advises on the development, acquisition and use of tools to support and strengthen Treehouse’s data / research capabilities.
• Provides actionable insights to partners regarding their data, to inform decision-making.
• Implements best practices around data governance, data quality, and data integrity.

Optional / Nice to Have

• Apply expertise in quantitative analysis, data mining, and the presentation of data to see beyond the numbers and understand how our users interact with our core/business products
• Inform, influence, support, and execute our product decisions and product launches
• Develop patterns (for example, an ETL pipeline) for storing and analyzing data within the Treehouse ecosystem to help improve teaching and the overall Treehouse experience
• Communicate the state of business, experiment results, etc. to product teams
• Effectively spread best practices to the broader team

• Prior experience in data architecture, database design, and data warehousing, preferably in a Software as a Service (SaaS) environment.
• Skilled at managing teams and projects.
• Prior experience with R, Python, SAS, or comparable statistical-computing languages or tools.
• Attention to detail and the ability to prioritize/manage multiple tasks.
• Exceptional organizational, communication, and decision-making skills.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively in a changing environment.
• Familiarity with databases and query languages such as Amazon Redshift, MySQL, PostgreSQL.
• Scripting ETLs and optimizing query performance.
• Prior experience with online A/B or multivariate testing, experimental design and analysis techniques.
• Familiarity with key SaaS metrics (such as LTV, CPA, MRR, etc.)
• Prior experience building complex SaaS cohort reporting.
• Familiarity with industry standards and emerging trends in data analysis, data mining, data science, machine learning, and algorithms.
