Though hearing impairment is sometimes seen as less of a barrier to web content, 0:00 it definitely presents its own challenges. 0:05 In this video, we'll learn how to add transcripts to video content. 0:08 YouTube has a handy list of instructions for adding subtitles and 0:12 closed captioning to YouTube videos. 0:15 You'll find a link to it in the notes. 0:17 You'll want to navigate to your Creator Studio and select a video. 0:20 Within its menu, choose Subtitles & CC. 0:26 At this point, we need to choose a language. 0:32 Personally, the only language I speak fluently is English. 0:34 So that's what I'll choose. 0:39 I'll also go ahead and make it the default language for new uploads. 0:41 I'll finish up by hitting Set Language. 0:47 Now that the menu's loaded up, we'll go to Add new subtitles or 0:50 CC and choose our language, in my case, English. 0:54 At this point we've got a few options. 1:01 If you've already captioned the video elsewhere, you can upload that file here, 1:04 and call it a day. 1:07 If you have a transcription, and would like to try to match up the words with 1:09 the correct times, choose Transcribe and auto-sync. 1:12 The last option, Buy Subtitles/CC or translation is available in 1:17 case you want to employ professional services to caption your videos. 1:22 The option we're going to try out today is Create new subtitles or CC. 1:28 It takes some practice to get the timing just right, but 1:34 we can add subtitles line by line in this little editor. 1:37 By default, the video will pause if we start typing in the new caption area. 1:40 You can change the position of the red line below the video to 1:51 navigate through based on sound levels. 1:55 [SOUND] 2:04 Once you're finished, go ahead and 2:15 hit the Publish button. 2:18 You've got a video with brand new captions. 2:20 To check to make sure everything is timed properly, 2:22 you'll need to activate captions from within the video player. 2:25
