The channels for a Slack team
are listed on the left sidebar here.
0:00
When you first joined,
0:04
you only saw the default channels,
ones that you see when you join.
0:05
However, there are other channels as well.
0:09
They aren't immediately shown, but
you can join them at any time.
0:10
For example, we show you the channel for
unit 01, but
0:14
there's also a channel for
each other unit in the Techdegree.
0:17
Let me show you how to find and
join a channel.
0:20
I recommend that you open Slack too.
0:23
You can follow along with
me to get some practice.
0:25
Go ahead, pause this video, and
start it again when you've got Slack open.
0:28
Okay, let's move your mouse to the left
side bar over the word channels and click.
0:32
The Browse channels window opens.
0:37
You can type a name in the search
box to locate a channel.
0:40
For example, if I type unit, I can see
a list of all of the unit channels.
0:43
Click on unit-02.
0:48
This gives you a preview of the channel so
0:50
you can see what
the conversations are like in it.
0:52
The Join Channel button lets you jump
into the channel so you can post.
0:55
You can also leave a channel, if it's not
a discussion you plan on participating in.
1:00
To leave, click the channel
name at the top of the page and
1:04
choose Leave with a channel name.
1:08
In this case, Leave #unit-02.
1:10
You can also leave a channel
by typing a message /leave.
1:12
And hitting Return or Enter.
1:19
This closes a channel for you and
1:22
removes it from the list of
channels in the left sidebar.
1:24
Don't worry, you can always rejoin
a channel you've left by searching for
1:27
it and joining it again.
1:30
Let's join another channel.
1:33
Click the channels link.
1:34
Type practice.
1:37
You'll see there's one channel,
practice-slack.
1:41
Let's join it.
1:44
The practice-slack channel
is just here for practice.
1:48
You won't get answers to questions here.
1:50
It's a playground for you to practice it.
1:52
Why don't you type a message in here
like Hello, I'm a Techdegree student.
1:54
We'll be using this channel in this course
to practice writing Slack messages.
2:02
Feel free to write more now and
when you're done,
2:06
type /leave to leave the channel.
