Overview of Forms1:37 with Nick Pettit
Accepting input from the user means creating a web form, which is typically composed of form controls like text fields, radio buttons, checkboxes, select menus, and more.
Throughout these videos, we'll be learning about many HTML form elements. If you'd like to learn more, be sure to read the notes section of each video to review vocabulary, code, and links to documentation. For starters, here's the Mozilla Developer Network guide for HTML forms.
The web is a two way communication medium.
There's lots of HTML elements for displaying data or producing output,
and conversely there's also lots of HTML elements for accepting input.
Accepting input from the user means creating
a web form, which is typically composed
of form controls like text fields, radio
buttons, check boxes, select menus, and more.
To learn about forms, we're going to create a
simple Sign Up form for an imaginary web app.
Our form won't actually submit anywhere
since that requires additional server side code.
However, we will learn about all the most important HTML form elements.
To follow along with this project, click the Workspaces
button next to this video and open the associated template.
There should already be some starter HTML and CSS code included in your Workspace.
This will allow us to focus specifically on forms.
If you'd like to use another text editor instead of
Workspaces, just download the project files associated with this video.
It's the same code that's included with Workspaces.
One more thing I should note, the included CSS will automatically
make our forms look a lot better than the browser defaults.
If at any time you'd like to see what the
default browser styling looks like, feel free to remove the CSS.
The CSS is not required, and it's just there to make this project look pretty.
Now, if you're ready, then let's get started.
