Presentation skills should be used to prepare and deliver relevant content, and compel the audience to take action.
[SOUND].
To
0:00
be successful with your career, any type
of career really, it's important
0:04
to match up your hard skills with a set of
soft skills.
0:08
And one type of soft skill I'd like to
focus on here is something
0:12
that many devs and designers need all the
time, although you might not realize it.
0:15
Presentation skills.
0:20
When I refer to presentation skills I'm
not just talking about preparing a
0:21
keynote or a PowerPoint deck and then
showing it to an audience, although that's
0:25
certainly included here.
Presentation skills refers to your ability
0:29
to prepare and deliver information of any
kind to different types of audiences.
0:34
Whether it's, say one person or could be a
crowd of people.
0:40
Now these skills come in handy in many
different scenarios and if you've been
0:44
building sites with a team or for clients,
you'll understand what I'm talking about.
0:48
And that's
0:54
because presentation skills are also about
influencing
0:54
and audience, compelling them to take
action.
0:59
It's not just about delivering the
information.
1:02
You want to get your audience to do
something.
1:04
To react in a certain way.
1:06
And it's all based on the information and
the data that you're providing.
1:08
So when you make a pitch to an investor,
or you present a project proposal to
1:13
a prospective client.
1:20
Even if you're meeting someone for the
first time and you're describing
1:21
what you do in the hopes that you can work
together, you're
1:24
using presentation skills and we're going
to go over some of those
1:26
skills today because they're going to make
your talks that much more effective.
1:30
But before we move further, I just want to
reiterate these three key
1:35
points, because they're kind of, they're
gonna kind of be the structure for the
1:40
talk today.
1:45
And that is, prepare information, deliver
information,
1:45
and compel your audience to take action.
1:49
If you can do these three things, When
your developing a presentation or a
1:51
talk of your own it's going to be awesome
and it's gonna be effective
