Trailer for "How to build a WordPress plugin" In this project we learn how to build a WordPress plugin. We will start with an overview of what plugins are and how they work. We will then move into best practices for coding in the WordPress environment and some basic functions and reference material you need to know. In the process you'll learn actions, filters and how to create widgets and shortcodes. You'll even learn how to integrate with 3rd party APIs and create your own WordPress plugins from scratch.
[Zac Gordon] Hi, I'm Zac, Wordpress teacher at Treehouse.
In this project, we're going to learn how to build a Wordpress plugin.
In our plugin, we'll be taking our badges from our Treehouse portfolio page and having them show up on our Wordpress site.
We'll cover Wordpress actions and filters, working with third-party APIs,
and how to build admin pages, shortcuts, widgets, and more.
To do this, I'll assume you have a strong foundation in PHP, Wordpress, and jQuery.
So, if you're a Wordpress theme developer looking to take your skills to the next level,
or a programmer who wants to learn how to add additional functionality to a Wordpress site,
then our Wordpress plugin project is for you.
