adding GPS functionality, my GPS method is never called

In the interest of keeping clean code I made a GPS_Service service. Also to test my results I have the location textview being set to the GPS coordinates. I kept getting "0.0, 0.0" back as my coordinates and I couldn't figure out why. In a moment of inspiration I added a Log.d statement containing the long and lat, and now I see it's not getting logged, so clearly my checkGPS method is never being run. I'm using the third party plugin Let as my permission manager.

Also

mManager.requestLocationUpdates(LocationManager.NETWORK_PROVIDER, 3000, 0, mListener);

was initially

mManager.requestLocationUpdates(LocationManager.GPS_SERVICE, 3000, 0, mListener);

so it can't be that.
