General Discussion

Ads stated that Treehouse would help us find a job, where are all the jobs?

This ad: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUAg51kA42M Which I'm sure we all have see a hundred times on youtube, says at the end that they will be able to "put us in an amazing job."

I only see four or five jobs on the job board, so where are the "promised" jobs? I mean, if there are thousands of us looking for a job, and only five jobs, do the math.

Any input from anyone?

This is all very discouraging, as a while back, I've taken courses at Treehouse and enjoyed them. I like the challenge of seeking work, providing the opportunities are real. If there are no jobs, then getting them are unrealistic. Life is too short to waste time and money. I do love the courses at Treehouse. Perhaps they could seek accreditation which would attract employers. Why haven't they done this already? I signed up with Treehouse 3 yrs ago.

Treehouse will teach you the skills for an amazing job. You can look on on the job board or search other online job boards.

I appreciate the response, but the ad explicitly states, "if you need a job, we will take you and put you in an amazing job." That, at least to me, sounds like they would be providing a facet for all of us who have completed courses/tracks to find a job. 5 jobs on a job board is not that helpful.

You should contact support about this!

I did, the response was, "watch the job board for jobs." Helpful, but not exactly fulfilling what their ads promised. I guess I incorrectly assumed that if I finished courses, they would help, not just have a couple jobs posted.

Ryan probably shouldn't have worded it in the way he did, I think he just got caught up in all the excitement. No learning institution or program can ever really promise you a job, it's just not realistic. Sure they can offer a bit of help, but Treehouse isn't exactly a big bad university, and even those can't always find their students jobs. Finding the work is just something you'll need to accomplish on your own.

Great points

I did not say that I expected them to find me a job, I said I expected to see more jobs to be posted.

There are 5 jobs posted. Not even close to what you would expect from a job board. I can go to stack overflow and fine more jobs, and it's free.

You can probably blame that on the $99.00+ posting fee for the job board. Which does help keep out a lot of spam, but doesn't make for much incentive for employers.

Also, your portfolio website looks great! If you're having trouble finding work, then there's probably little hope for the rest of us. :(

In all honesty, the website was not designed or developed by me. I don't have time to do development on my own stuff, so I bought that wordpress theme. In my free time, I'm usually designing/developing FileMaker Pro Databases, but I'm trying to get web work. (Which I do as well.)

There was a surge in demand for developers that seemed to peak last summer. Treehouse and many of the bootcamps out there go overzealous in their marketing claims when it came to job placement. SInce then the mini-job bubble has popped and the number of entry-level tech jobs has decreased significantly, leaving organizations like Treehouse holding the bag. The Treehouse job board was released about the same time all the jobs were disappearing and it was a failure.

IMO Treehouse is still well worth the money, but they still need to be more accountable for their marketing claims.

So your opinion, Aaron, is that this field is becoming oversaturated? If so, that is disappointing. I'm currently trying to transition from one oversaturated field to another. At least web development/programming is a passion of mine.

I believe that this is still a good job market but entry level jobs are increasingly difficult to find.
