It would be great if we could have a course/workshop on setting up an amazon EC2 instance with a LAMP stack so that you can get a Wordpress or similar site working.
From my point of view this would have to be from a newbie point of view e.g. little server experience.

36,217 PointsIn the meantime has anyone had any experience with this http://bitnami.org/cloud, I have just signed up for a free account to give it a try. It looks like a great halfway house that is easy to set up.

39,199 PointsI'd suggest you use Turnkey Linux. They have a wide variety of applications including Wordpress.
In fact if you want to you can even deploy a Turnkey Linux VM to EC2 with just a click of the mouse.

If you want to setup a local test VM:
- Install virtualbox
- DownloadWordpress VM from Turnkey Linux
- Import the VM into Virtualbox
