Android Development can't complete course

During the initial android video - it is asking me to use Android Virtual Device Manager. I try to create an Android41 /AVD but when selecting Create AVD I get an error message

[2013-01-02 23:19:43 - SDK Manager] Error: Target location is not inside the SDK. [2013-01-02 23:19:43 - SDK Manager] Failed to set image path properties in the AVD folder.

Found some assistance on this link - http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4810478/android-sdk-and-avd-manager-cant-create-avd-in-correct-file-location

After creating the event variables it still isnt working.

Running Windows 8 64bit I have run the Initial_Setup file as admin and I have not changed the location of the Android folder

Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem and couldn't fix it no matter where i unzipped the folders to. However, I got around this issue by opening the AVD manager directly from the folder I unzipped it to (not from within the Eclipse program) (...\android_dev_environment\android-sdk-windows\AVD Manager), and was able to add the Android4.1 AVD there. Then when I opened the AVD manager from within Eclipse, it was also there. Not sure if this is a great solution, but it worked for me.

I feel like this will help someone figure out the actual solution... ;)

Thanks for this feedback! Did you run initial_setup.bat, and if so, do you remember if it said it was successful or not?

Yes, I did and it was successful. I ran it quite a few times, changing the location of the files as Antionio suggested, never fixing the AVD manager problem...I wonder if Windows 8 has something to do with it...

Okay - good to know! It sounds like there is an issue with the script on Windows 8, though I have been unable to recreate it myself. Can you give me the full path to your bundle download location?

I was actually able to resolve it. Maybe this can help someone else. Saving it in the root of the profile location doesnt work not sure if its UAC or what but I moved the folder to documents instead of c:\Users\%username%\ and reran the initial setup file and it worked.

I'm currently having this issue and it's preventing me from moving on. I moved to documents (i.e. "C:\Users\Michael\Documents") and ran the initial set up, and I'm still having the same issue. What am I doing wrong?

Sorry for the trouble, Michael. I updated the bundles recently and it might be easiest for you to try a new one: https://teamtreehouse.com/forum/updated-android-development-bundles-available

Fantastic Antonio! So glad you were able to figure things out :D

Awesome - thanks for posting your solution, Antonio! This is the #1 problem members have been facing with the Windows bundle, and it's always related to the path where it's unzipped. I'll go take a look and see where I can add some tips to help avoid this in the future.

Very useful,

Thank you.

Side Note: One of the things I've noticed is that there are sometimes Window-specific steps missing in videos regarding instructions on installing software such as Android's SDK and Ruby on Rails.

I'm always super grateful when someone posts a note about Windows-specific instructions.

I'm on a Mac and I'm having the same issue. How do I resolve? I'm a total novice when it comes to troubleshooting computer problems....

I'm working in Windows 7. During the initial Android video I try to create Android41 but I keep getting error message [2013-06-08 16:06:20 - SDK Manager] Error: Target location is not inside the SDK. [2013-06-08 16:06:20 - SDK Manager] Failed to set image path properties in the AVD folder.

What do I do?

Have a look at this other post in the forum -- you may be best served by switching to the bundle from the Android developer site.
