583 PointsApple Protection Plan for MacBook Pro and power of entry model 13inch?
While studying madly Android, I got accepted into MBA this year, so I have decided to treat myself with MacBook Pro 13inch entry model with a student discount of $100. It will also be a good opportunity to learn iOS stuff I wanted to put in my resume.
One question is, they offer 3 year protection plan, and I wasn't sure if I should get it or not as it costs $199, which is hefty, but considering all the iOS learning I'd be doing along with MBA studying on it, I'm not sure if I need some insurance on this.
Also I am planning to buy entry model MacBook Pro 13 inch (recently upgraded one with 2.6Ghz with 8GB ram). I was wondering if it's going to be enough for my basic iOS app/game programming (possibly unreal or unity) and UX design using Adobe CC.
While these questions are easily searchable on google, I was hoping to see what treehouse friends think. I'll remove this question if found irrelevant or not fit to the forum.
Thank you!

42,016 PointsI have the entry level model 13 inch and it works great. Handles Adobe Master Suite 6, Xcode, etc great with no issues. I did have to replace the fan though. But thats the only problem ive had with mine. As far as the $200 dollar protection plan, its probably better to be safe than sorry. I've never had to use one, but for something as expensive as a Macbook its probably a good idea. Just my opinion.

12,955 PointsThe 13" is a great machine and quite capable. I would definitely put as much ram in as possible, as that's going to give you the largest performance gain for the least amount of money. If you can afford an SSD, you'll not only increase the speed by a wide margin, you'll also extend your battery life a great deal as well.
Always get the AppleCare, especially on a portable. The machine is going to be thrown around in a backpack sleeved and resleeved how many time a day in how many different places? The opportunity for something to go wrong is high, and it's cheap insurance. As long as you don't physically damage the machine (drop it or expose it to water), Apple will fix it, and there's nothing on that machine that's less than $200. Money well spent, and you won't have to worry about it for the next 3 years.

9,264 PointsYou can buy official/real AppleCare at a discount from sources besides Apple. You have a year from date of purchase (the period of the 1-year factory warranty) to purchase AppleCare. B&H Photo is one retailer that sells AppleCare at a discount. Even at full price though, it's worth it.

6,646 PointsYeah I got the applecare from B&H you save about $50 bucks. Well worth it, when batteries die, screen dies, etc after the one year default applecare.
