Are all variables in PHP Global by default?

We are using a variable $section = "suggest"; in say suggest.php file and when i go to catalog.php file how am i able to access the $section Variable? Are all variables in PHP Global by default.

Hey Kireeti K , you are able to access $section because you are including the php file(details.php i guess) in your catalog.php because of which $section become accessible through catalog.php
