Are objects a replacement for Associative array in JavaScript?

I've read about associative array and objects in some other OOP language. But in JavaScript the work of an object is similar to an associative array. This does'nt make any sense, please help.

It makes perfect sense.

JavaScript objects are indeed associative arrays. Even "normal" arrays in JavaScript are associative arrays that have (mostly) numeric indices.
