15,336 PointsAre there project assignments tailored to the courses/track progression, that would be beneficial to practice?
The best way to learn code is to practice coding things and I don't feel the code challenges and quizzes sufficient to develop the skills. I personally tend to just watch the videos and do the challenges/quizzes without coding the whole page/site..etc.
There should be course projects or at least suggested projects to practice what one has learned so far in their course. For students new to coding, they might not know where to start with getting real world project practice, so a project suggestion as part of the course would be beneficial.
I have not seen this in treehouse and I think it would be a great idea!

39,508 PointsHi Mike! I started Treehouse about 3 months ago and I had the same question. The best advice I've been given and followed is really just to build your own websites. Build a portfolio website for yourself and then go to friends/family/local businesses you may know, tell them you are studying web design, and offer to build them a website. The practice will jump start your learning and you'll have something to show for your knowledge and skills. I've also been pushing code up to github, which has been recommended to me by almost everybody.
As far as there being something integrated into the site itself, I think that would be a great idea! Maybe if there were community projects for the tracks that would be judged by the instructors. A "website jam" similar to the Ludem Dare (http://ludumdare.com/compo/) for game developers would be awesome as well!
Just so you know I did actually follow that advice, here are the two sites I'm building. The first is a portfolio site for myself and the second is for an Etsy shop my cousin has. They aren't very good or complete, but I'm always working on them and trying to improve. http://mikernewman.com/ http://mikeronewman.github.io/redesignonadime/
Just throwing it out there as well, if you would like someone else new to collaborate with, let me know!

15,336 PointsHi Michael, yes community projects would be great! Nice sites, I should try and build my own. I have tried to replicate a site I like, which was very good practice. Yeah collaborating on something would be cool, keep in touch!
