PHP Integrating PHP with Databases Using Relational Tables Fetching Many Relationships

Assistance with last challenge in Integrating php with databases - Adding Genres to item array

Hi All,

I'm having trouble understanding where I've gone wrong here. I've tried to var_dump item and result variable to test my outputs. I'm still getting the error that it doesn't look like anything was added to the array. If someone could point me in the right direction that would be great.

index.php
<?php

include "helper.php";

/*
 * helper contains the following variables:
 * $item is an array that contains details about the library item
 * $results is a PDOstatement object with our genre results.
 */
$results->bindParam(1, $id, PDO::PARAM_INT);
$results->execute();
while($row = $results->fetch(PDO::FETCH_ASSOC)){
      $item[$row["genres"]][] = $row["genre_id"];
    }
return $item;

1 Answer

  1. You don't need the bindParam or return
  2. The outer key of $item on the left side of the assignment should be "genres", not $row["genres"].
  3. The inner key of $item on the left side of the assignment should be $row["genre_id"].
  4. The right side of the assignment should be $row["genre"], not $row["genre_id"]. Again that should be the inner key of $item on the left side.
