Hey guys, what do you think makes a more sought-after Back End Developer, PHP (& Laravel) + Extensive Javascript or PHP + Wordpress (obviously w/ basic JS as well)

5,995 PointsWordpress has the lion's share of the market, so plenty of work there... However, a lot of other people'll have some sort of WP Experience too.
Laravel (or your PHP Framework of your choice, though Laravel is up there), might have less openings (but at the same time, less specialists), so pick your poison. :)

23,118 PointsYou should learn all three. every site uses some form of JS and WP runs around 20% of the internet. So it just kind of makes sense to learn all three. WP is just a CMS so you would be a PHP/JS dev just using the CMS WP. I don't think it can hurt to learn WP, its a great open source community. If you want to learn PHP and your job requires an CMS its going to be WP being used most likely. In the end if you know PHP and JS you should be good to go.

8,876 PointsSounds good! Do you recommend going in depth in to WP? Like here on Treehouse, if I were to learn WP, should I do just the learn WP or go into detail with it in the WP Development Track?

23,118 PointsGo in detail. you will be using a lot of PHP to create your own themes and plugins. WP is built on PHP so any thing you do outside of the dashboard, or CSS is going to use PHP/JS.

8,876 PointsSorry, I think I may have mis-worded my question! I'm wondering if it'd be more beneficial to be a PHP/Wordpress dev or a PHP/JavaScript dev (as in more than basic JS). There are a lot of people around who know Wordpress decently well so I wasn't sure if learning WP would get me a leg up as it isn't as general of a thing as JS but it also isn't as integral to a developer's arsenal as JavaScript is. Sorry about the confusion and thanks for the response!
