Becoming a real coder

Hello everybody. I'm studying everyday and giving my best to achieve my goal: to be a real coder.

But I would like to hear for some experienced Treehouse student, or anybody else, how do you organize your study pace? Do you determine an amount of daily hours to study over Treehouse courses, or an amount of daily "Treehouse points"? Do you have a path just like: HTML -> CSS -> Javascript -> So forth? What are your another fonts of "Coding Courses"(With links please)? Have you got a list of people to follow over twitter?

Thanks for reading and looking forward for a good discussion here.

Hi Leonardo,

Personally, I find that setting myself project targets is the best way to learn on Treehouse. Let me explain what I mean here:

Say for example I want to learn Ruby and Ruby on Rails. I might set myself a target of building a web app in 6 months time. I will then set about learning everything on Treehouse that I need to learn in order to build the app. If I don't complete the app, then I haven't learnt enough and need to keep learning.

Along the way, every time I learn something new, I usually practice it and test it by doing smaller projects as I go that incorporate everything I have learned up until now.

Everyone learns differently, but this is how I do it. And it works well for me :D

Keep up the good work

Thanks for your answer! I need to think about these kind of projects. =]

Im very ADD and I find the most important thing for me is to spend time on treehouse rather than getting caught up in the order I think I should learn things in. I found that when I tried to stick to the web design track, I stopped doing it when I got bored. I have given myself promission to bounce around; start javascript before finishing css, start swift, start wordpress, come back to them later. the most important thing for me right now is to just be on the site.

as for the actual time you spend, anytime your not at work or the gym, you should be on treehouse! I once read an article about a very successful self taught coder who landed a job in silicon valley, but he spent 8 hours a day for six months learning on treehouse and codecademy to get there. thats how real it is for some people!

Good tip! I'm trying to spend the most time I can here in treehouse. Thanks for your answer!
