Best IDE for Mac?

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a mac and wanted to get some info on good IDE's as I am lost after upgrading from Ubuntu and using Geany.... Any ideas?

Thanks

If you are getting into iOS development, Xcode is a must. It has a great set of tools and its easy to use. For web development, I've recently started using Sublime text and I love it and if you are getting into Java I also recommend Eclipse for both standard java and Android Development.

If you are used to Geany, then I'd recommend you check out brackets

Thanks for your suggestions guys, I have downloaded xcode as I plan to learn Objective C, but wanted to start with HTML/CSS before I progress on to anything else. I will definitely try brackets.

Thanks for the response!

I really enjoy SublimeText. It has great support, killer packages, and very much easy to use if you don't need all the fluff of a major IDE (all the windows are too cluttered to me). It may look familiar because a lot of the videos here feature it. Check it out: http://www.sublimetext.com/

If you aren't afraid of vi, there is a great "ide" setup for it called spf13. This is what I have been using primarily for the past several months. It's great, and super useful. I think I am spoiled with the git plugin alone! There are a lot of features for any language or framework you work with. Vi/vim isn't for the feint of heart though... There is a learning curve, but it's worth it I feel. Check it: http://vim.spf13.com/

Another popular mac exclusive is Coda from Panic, Inc. It is focused on web design from start to finish. Great products come out of these guys. I used the first iteration of Coda long ago and was generally impressed by its polish. I would assume it's only gotten better. Can be seen here: https://panic.com/coda/

Hope that helps!

Thanks Russell, I am now currently trying out Coda 2 and Brackets but have heard good things about Vim. Thanks for the response.
