I don't think you can go wrong with any distro, although personally, I love the distros built off Ubuntu/Debian, as they seem to have the most support in the community. If there is a package available for Linux, you'll more than likely find it using a *Ubuntu based distribution. I use Kubuntu, which is a KDE variant of Ubuntu, and I love it!

13,023 PointsI second the Debian based distros brought up by Marcus Parsons but remember to stick to what you know. If you feel confident making it work on arch well....good for you but I won't attempt it. If you are used to RedHat use that. Personally I tried Fedora the other day and loved it. I also have Kali, Ubuntu, and Mint in virtualboxs. Some will be easier then others but try to avoid learning multiple big things at once. Stick to a distro you are confident in and they process will be much easier.

But the only benefit of using a Linux distro over Win, imo, is the ease of not having to install drivers for your devices. This is true for OSx as well. And, you know, Ubuntu is free. And Linux users are cool.

^ Read that. It has many good points. Windows is only just now getting multiple desktops, a feature that has been a part of Linux desktops for a great many years now. And we still have to worry about thousands upon thousands of viruses on Windows, among many other things.

23,176 PointsYes, in the case of general use I can see a lot of good points for using Linux. The only downside i know of is application support. The software you can get for Windows is simply better than most of the stuff you get for Linux to replace it. This is why i still use Windows on my PC. But in the case of development, Linux and Windows is basically just as good.

8,312 PointsOk I did some poking around and I'm going to try this flavor of it
I read that it would a nice distro to put on a laptop, who knows. This will be my first time playing around with linux is about 15 years, I'm sure things have changed since then. I'm just hoping to get some life from my laptop and have just one machine for doing treehouse courses and Android stuff, nothing else. Dam kids have all kinds of stuff on my Windows machine and sometimes I wonder if that's slowing it down lol ... Is Linux good for android app development?
