Best way for responsive layout?

Hey everyone I was just wondering what is the best way to layout a responsive page? 960 grid system? Zurb? Bootstrap? What are you guys using? Are you writing the CSS and adding the media Queries yourself or...?

What are the options out there? Thanks

There are many options out there and ways to approach a responsive website... many articles and tutorials have been written on this. I think you need to decide if a framework is beneficial to the specific project, if it includes things you might need (such as a responsive slider, or vertical rhythm, etc.) Sometimes it's just as quick to build what you need from scratch, as it is to learn and implement someone else's code. There is no definite solution, often times you need to experiment with what works best for your workflow, project (and even team you're working with).

Hi Nkosi!

It depends really. If you want to be using features of Bootstrap and be able to whip up a quick but beautiful and responsive site then go for Bootstrap.

Otherwise you could do it through media queries but this would be a far lengthier process than using bootstrap.

Thank you both for the replies.

Kinda what I expected. Say I am to build my portfolio, would it be best to do it from scratch or to use a framework? I personally think doing it from scratch would be nice touch as you'd be exhibiting your skills. On the other hand, most portfolios I have seen use bootstrap

It is up to you but it doesn't make you look any more knowledgable by avoiding bootstrap! Some amazing portfolios have been made using it.

If you do not know how to design, use bootstrap or foundation. If you know how to design, feel free to design it yourself. (most potential clients don't really consider what you use, as long as it looks nice and professional.)

That is the consensus I got from people who have been their and done that.

but you can take this course on treehouse and decide from there.. http://teamtreehouse.com/library/framework-basics
