Bower usage

Hi, I tried to install bower but I can't quite figure out how to use it. I'm using windows 7. I installed node.js and then opened cmd and ran

'''npm install -g bower'''

This installed bower for me, and I can go to it at my User/node_modules/bower-installer

I assume having just the installer is not enough, and I need to use that to actually install bower, as opposed to bower-installer. I don't know how to do that. Can you help me out, please?
