Android Build an Interactive Story App (Retired) User Input Finding Views by IDs

build an interactive story app

initialize the member variable mExterminate Button using the findView By id() method. the ID for the button is button1 .Dont forget to cast the generic view returned by the method1

MainActivity.java
import android.app.Activity;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.view.View;
import android.widget.Button;

public class MainActivity extends Activity {

    protected Button mExterminateButton;

    @Override
    public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
        setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);

        // Declare our view variables
           MExterminateButtoncast.findViewById(button1);

    }

}

The button variable has been initialised as protected Button mExterminateButton;

But you have written it as MExterminateButtoncast -- with a capital M in the beginning. Java is case sensitive.

Change it to mExterminateButtoncast.findViewById(button1); ... though this statement is wrong

Other issue is the question clearly says cast the generic view. If you haven't watched the beginner tutorials as yet I would suggest do that. All these basics has been covered there.

Also findViewById is not a method of the Button class. But rather standalone in a sense that helps find the view through its id.

So basically the statement should be

mExterminateButtoncast = (cast_to_button) findViewById(name_of_button_id);

Hope this helps
