Can we talk about these "fill in the blank" questions on the quizzes?

I love everything about treehouse, but if there was one thing that I could do without, it would be those dang "fill in the blank" questions. I notice a lot of questions that get asked in the forum are from questions that are fill in the blank.

I wouldn't mind fill in the blank if it were more based on syntax, but when I get a fill in the blank wrong because of maybe a typo or just a different word, it's frustrating when I have to do the quiz all over, (especially the 14-16 question ones.)

Besides that, love Treehouse! very happy user. I just think it would be nice to have a local thread to see how everyone feels.

I rather like the fill in the blank questions.

Most if not all of the material is fairly easy and standard. I have been stumped by fill in the blank but if there is something I'm not 100% sure about it suggests I probably need to brush up on whatever I'm not understanding or lock in certain concepts.

It seems like each instructor makes their own challenges? In the iOS section at least the ending of OBJC and the beginning of iOS Applications in Swift, the questions are way too easy.

The C and OBJC questions prior were well thought out but it was a different instructor. Maybe the material is just easy, but I don't favor the challenges.

Generally speaking though, as tagged, I haven't gone through every single fill-in-the-blank that treehouse has to offer so there's my two cents.

I think the point of the very strict syntax and spelling on the fill-in-the-blank has to do with how specific coding really is. If you make a typo in code or miss a punctuation, there is a VERY good chance you code will break. So, the questions are designed to reflect real life... If you don't get it exactly right ---> it's not right! It's all about attention to detail.

And Anthony Babich I agree... there are quite a few questions that are just way too easy.

Keep Coding Everyone! :)

When you put it that way, I can see your point... but I specifically remember a question that stated something along the lines of "Before you start coding or working with a developer, you should create a ____"

I wrote Site plan.

Answer was Site map.

I get the exact wording for coding, but when it comes to fundamentals, exact wording of vocab can be a little annoying.

In that example, I see your point completely... I guess it just a little of give-and-take that we have to accept. Thinking back, I do remember some that I got stuck on for a silly error. :/

Personally, I think that questions that are not related to the actual code should be multiple choice, or like you said, a bit more lenient in spelling and wording.
