General Discussion

Can you still learn by tearing things apart?

A lot of developers in the last decade learned by copying and writing other website's code on their own, basically rebuilding them. Once they knew how things were done, they branched out on their own.

But with so much Javascript and server side processing, is it still possible in 2014? To get the raw HTML and CSS from a website to practice with?

I just completed the How To Make A Website course and I'll continue on the Track but I don't know how to practice things I've learned effectively. Because just reading book/guides isn't going to help me.

How do you guys learn stuff and get better at web design after you've completed a course? Are there any places where I can go to to do this kind of tearing apart thing?

You can inspect source code but I make my own projects and do more courses

Agree with Joseph Greevy make your own project and take the courses need to perfect your project. Example you want a slider just below the header of you site. Take the course on javascript and jQuery to understand the lang being used. If you need two columns on your site take the course on css etc. You will learn a lot this way and may have to re take the course or move up a level to learn what you need..
