career paths in web design

Hi everyone!

I am a marketing student interested in web design. I am still thinking about what type of career path to take. Will a mixture of web design and marketing be beneficial for me?

Anyone have any insight on what type of career paths I can take after learning web design from treehouse? I would like to combine my business and marketing knowledge. But would also like some insight into the world of web design, and the paths one can take.

Also any other resources where I can go and talk to people who have experience in the feild?

Marketing and web design are in the same realm, and having knowledge of marketing will help you land a job, but you would probably be more wise to study Web DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT, and learn the marketing stuff on the job.

Seems people in my industry (Advertising) have more trouble learning Development on the job, whereas marketing knowledge is a skill acquired by working with people more talented than you.

Of course, the same is true with design and development, but to me, marketing is the easiest to learn "on-the-job".

Some will agree, others won't, just my opinion.

Thanks for responding :)

Could you elaborate a little on why I need to learn web development? I honestly don't know much about it.

I wouldn't say "need" is the right word, but most company prefer that an interactive web designer, at least has basic knowledge of development skills so they understand the limitations of web, and can decided accordingly. You don't actually have to write the code 99% of the time, companies just like that you understand how web development works so that you understand how to design for the web.

That's basically it. It's definitely not required in most instances, just preferred.
