Code Editor Suggestions

I am currently looking for suggestions on which code editors people like to use so I can be more productive with my workflow. I was a huge fan of Brackets but it's lack of SFTP and Live Preview for .php files means I'll have to let it go for now, and I have dreamweaver with my Adobe CC subscription, but I can't stand actually coding in that program!

I was looking into Coda and that looks like something really interesting, and there's always Sublime Text I guess, I was hoping for some feedback on which editors work best for you, and why. Be specific! Any examples on why you use certain programs would greatly help!

My personal recommendation is web storm along with php storm if you don't mind spend some expenditure.

Big Fan of Coda 2. I use Sublime as well, but Coda is great for managing multiple sites. Great Editor, Integrated Terminal, MySQL Editor, SFTP, etc. etc... Not nearly as bloated and cumbersome as Dream Weaver but still loaded with useful features. Once you learn your way around it's very customizable to your workflow. And reasonably priced. Popular for good reason. I recommend it.

Coda 2 looked like the best bet to me, but the only reviews I could find were from coda 1+, and now that I know how to code, Dreamweaver is extremely bloated, but you couldn't tell me that two years ago. Are there any bugs or problems that you have with it? I'm gonna try the trial soon but it's only a week so I gotta make sure I'm not busy the week I get it.

Sublime Text ...free to try and there's so many plug-ins to use.

I've been trying to install the plugins for sublime text but its not the in-app experience I'm used to with brackets so I gotta figure out how to install them to test ST properly.

Devin,

You should install package control first. https://sublime.wbond.net/

This makes it easy to install plugins.

I'm in Coda 2 all day every day. The UI layout is very different from DW. You can expect a slight learning curve... more like a slight "orientation curve." But once you learn where things are it makes perfect sense. It's a very smart UI. Very efficient. Much smarter than DW. It's very "workflow friendly" and rock solid. I've never hit a bug. Customer service and community support are great too.

I run a good number of client sites with it. Mostly Drupal and a few WP. All of them with different hosting configs (staging, production, etc.). It's a great tool for the price. From beginner to industrial strength. It's my "Swiss Army Knife." Cheaper than a cheap date. And it'll lead to a long relationship. Five Stars.

It's cheap. If you drop the coin it should pay for itself by lunchtime.

Thank you for all the advice, but actually for now I'm going to stick with Brackets. Although I may purchase a code editor in the future, I found that I couldn't configure the live editor in brackets to work with MAMP for PHP websites, but AMPPS let's me configure it to work perfectly with live preview in brackets, and it's FREE! So for now, brackets + AMPPS is my favorite combination and is keeping money in my pocket since they're both free, (Leaving me some spare change to buy Codekit).
