14,584 PointsCoding gui games is the funnest thing ive ever done. Try it if you haven't, forces you to learn fast.
I started coding about 7 or 8 months ago, i spent all my time watching videos and never really tried anything on my own. I would sometimes wonder if coding wasnt for me and if id be better off doing something else...
Then about a month ago i tried making swing/JavaFX gui games, which are awesome, especially when you start using timers and graphics, i feel like GUI games are like a canvas where you can put anything you can think up, i visualize some kind of power up or feature for a game and then try to make it happen which forces me to scour the Java docs or forums and learn a ton Also you get alot of glitches along the way that are hillarious like heres some that have happened in my breakout game:
- Ball sometimes killing 10+ bricks and other times not even killing one.
- Tried to make a multi ball power up brick which ended up having a chain reaction and spawning 200+ balls all over the screen and winning game instantly
- Exponential Velocity glitch that made ball curve all over the screen My point is alot of my time coding is spent laughing nowadays because of the glitches i dont expect, and then i learn alot fixing them.
Its very addicting, coding used to feel like a chore but now im spending maybe 80+ hours a week making and upgrading my games.
Dont get me wrong though Treehouse is great and really gives you your Coding Wings, just make sure you actually try to fly after you have them;)
Try re-making your own versions of arcade games, thats what im doing now, and if you get stuck theres always some similar source code out there to fill the gaps -breakout -dig dug -space invaders -snake -asteroids

2,300 PointsSounds like finding something humorous within your process of learning to code has actually caused you to become more engaged and therefore more focused and is causing you to learn faster. Interesting concept. I hope I get experience something like that soon. :)

2,435 PointsHey!
This sound interesting!
When i learn , i start to focus on what i what to do . Now i want to do a log in and log out form so im looking for php tutorials on that and if theres a code i dont know , i mostly search it. Some pieces come with just practicing .
Do you mean you watched 9 months videos without actually coding anything your self? So do you mean to force my self to just re-do it without looking at the code?
Even if i know a little about e.g log in log out, i ment to force my self to just try it ? If you eman that , well it sounds good as learning structure. Ill do that .
And 10 months making a game ? mm :D that sound superb ! Making any power in my head :D must be the best thing in the programming word . Making whatever you like , how you like and you decide :D
80hours per week? that sound a lot , wait it is a lot. Top people that run multi bullion/million / successful companies work that time 55-70h as i read and heared. A average is 40h. So if i remember you asked a question about going to college? SO at the end , did you went to college? or what are you doing now?
From my side, i have little or no time learning facilities. I have rarely access to PC and well, all the home problems and stuff... so im going to have 2 weeks on my own at home in a month and im hoping to learn enough to actually get a good grasp on PHP to even get a job as PHP developer or just to do any kind of website i want. I have it in my head .
