Hello, as you saw from the title I would like to talk about some College issues that I have. The teachers teach the same subjects over and over, they teach us for over a year about word and excel and they even forgot to transfer me from my old maths class to the new one so instead of doing the exams that I was supposed to be doing I "missed" the exams from the first "class" which the forgot to move me. There are more problems with the college, I was talking with my teacher about CompTIA A+ and he gave me a pdf with some resources, I discovered that the material was expired 2 years ago. My maths teacher is missing for 4 weeks and the teachers leave us alone sometimes for the entire lesson. They are a bunch of bonobos trying to "teach", the problem is that there isn't any other college in my area teaching Computing. What should I do? any personal experiences that you might want to share? sometimes I just feel like leaving the college for good, any tips to overcome my anger and disgust towards the college? What should I do?
Thank you very much... Stavros

43,038 PointsSo I am not advocating that you leave college, but there are definitely other options besides college for preparing for a career in development, especially web development.
I personally gained most of my initial web development knowledge from Treehouse, other online tutorials and small projects before getting a job.
Depending on where you live you might also be able to find some type of Coding Bootcamp, which tend to be short and intensive courses that teach modern tech stacks. They can be very expensive though, and you would still need to make sure the Bootcamp is legit (has good reviews and such).
It also really depends on what types of jobs are in your area, or an area you could move too. If there are not good jobs in your region you might benefit much more from having a degree if it can help you get a work visa in a country with a more lively tech industry.

You might want to consider attending a college outside of your immediate area that has higher standards.

8,859 PointsIt is not possible, the only college that I don't know if it reaches my standards is 1:30 hours away from the original college which means I will have to go through the regular distance + the new one.

231,275 PointsYou might need to consider being a resident (live in dorm/student housing) during your college time. And you may need to go farther than just a couple of hours away to find a really good one.

8,859 PointsThe problem is that I don't have enough money to live on my own and going further than a couple of hours is not possible either because I don't have enough money for buses etc, in the UK buses are extremely expensive.

231,275 PointsThere are also colleges that offer degree programs entirely online. Just like Treehouse, you could study without leaving your house. Some popular ones include:
- University of Central Florida
- Arizona State University
- University of Phoenix
- Colorado State University
And you can find many more with a quick search.

231,275 PointsAll of those are colleges/univerities and offer a degree program. Some even go to Master's degree.

231,275 PointsI'm not familiar with your intended field. You'll need to do some research to see which online university degrees are accepted within your intended industry.

8,859 PointsI would love to abandon college but the problem is that I don't want to become a web developer, I want to become a pentester which means I need to go to university which also means I need to go to college :/ the problem is that the college is making me feel depressed about myself sitting 7 hours without doing anything/wasting time which is a thing that I don't really enjoy...

231,275 PointsThis might not count as a college, but have you seen Pentester Online?
