I joined the PHP Development track a few weeks ago and after building a portfolio and two php sites I am just completely turned off with web development.... Any suggestions?

Really what was it that turned you off it?

Well I really like the php language and learning it is fun but building the websites made me feel like if I had to do this for the next couple of years I would go crazy. Also at times when I get home from work I wasn't really looking forward to finishing them.

Yeah, I understand that I am just starting out in Programming started a course in HTML5/JavaScript (web browser games) I want to program games but also do Apps but still have knowledge on a range of things. maybe just try learn something else for a while? just to refresh yourself.

Hey Andrew,

You could try switching to Rails. I personally haven't been through the Rails material on the site, but I found the PHP section didn't really click for me either. I've since learned PHP and feel the language is forgiving but not super engaging.

There's the chance that maybe this won't turn into a long running passion for you also, but there are a few other venues you could try before closing the books on web development.

Python is another route you could take, but I wouldn't recommend it over PHP or Ruby. Finally, you could look into becoming a Wordpress developer. Until you become a proficient Wordpress developer though, you're limited to whatever is available on the platform, but the trade off is that it would allow you to craft sites a lot more quickly.

Have you learned Javascript yet, or Bootstrap? If the time it takes to craft a website is the issue, there are some solutions to help you through the more tedious parts.

In the end, just ask yourself what exactly you're hoping to do with this knowledge. Are you looking at making a lot of money out of this, or is it just a hobby? Knowing your end game would help you make a plan, and knowing what tools are available will help you figure out how to get to a spot where you're comfortable.

In any event, hope things start to look up for you. Good luck!

These are great suggestions, thanks Daniel!

I second these ideas. Perhaps the language itself isn't the most enthralling for you and there is another out there that may be of more interest. Perhaps stroll through out library and take a few different courses to get a taste of them. Maybe mobile is more up your alley?

And ultimately, Daniel's question is critical: What is coding to you and what do you want to accomplish with it?
