Computer Science and College

I am currently going into my fourth year of high school and have some difficult decisions to make in terms of what I'm looking to make a career out of and where I'm going to get an adequate education so I can do so. However, my decision may be a bit easier than my peers because I have recently fallen in love with programming in an array of different languages (see what I did there? "array" of languages? Gosh I'm clever). The only problem is that I have no idea how to decipher what I should look for in a school's Computer Science program.

So now I'm curious, in your experience, how will I be able to separate a good computer science school from a poor one? Better yet, assuming I'm not worried about location (East Coast, West Coast, Europe, US, etc.) what are some schools you know of that have great computer science courses that will help me build on what I've learned here at Tree House?

Hey Zachary,

Glad you like coding and programming. It's an awesome field to be in these days. As for computer science, it's not just programming, it's much more than that. You learn logic, programming, math, a bit of hardware and networking. So when look for a school, look for a program that suits your goals. There are many schools that have great computer science departments. As for my personal recommendation, Georgia Tech in Atlanta is a great school with an excellent program for computer science.

Good Luck with everything. Hope this helps.

I just checked and George Tech is #4 on the list of schools with the highest ROI for their Comp Sci on the list I posted below.

Strong computer science programs tend to be found at schools with strong engineering programs and most of them are schools that are generally strong academically.

I'd suggest you start with this list:
