585 PointsConsole vs NetBeans
Hello, I'm new to programming and my question is, what is the difference between learning java like it is done here on a console and learning it on NetBeans or Eclipse like i've seen everywhere.
Thanks in advance

There are multiple different IDE's to choose from (Integrated development environment). Eclipse and IntelliJ are two of them. When practicing on Treehouse they have set up an environment for you, but when you move on to making real applications you will need an IDE. The workspaces are great for getting a feeling for how projects and packages work and - and when using a workspace you don't need to think about installing the java development kit on your local mashine, which you will need to do to use an IDE. I don't know if this answers your question, so please ask again if not :-)

19,109 PointsI think the biggest difference is, that you dont have to mess with all the settings and setting it up to work properly. If you are a beginner its easier to start with the workspace provided by treehouse so you can focus on learning how to code. Later on you will learn how to use and set up the local IDE (Eclipse, IntelliJ IDEA etc.)
