Databases Reporting with SQL Aggregate and Numeric Functions Counting Results

COUNT() HELP

Objective: In the library database, how many books are with the genre of "Science Fiction"?

Alias the result as scifi_book_count.

The books table has the columns id, title, author, genre and first_published.

Response:

SELECT COUNT(DISTINCT genre) WHERE genre = "Science Fiction" AS scifi_book_count FROM books;

I have a disconnect somewhere that but I am not sure where I am miss understanding. Help in the right direction?

Its asking for the total of books with the genre "Science Fiction" not Distinct/different. Also, you need to move your WHERE keyword.

SELECT COUNT( genre) AS scifi_book_count FROM books WHERE genre = "Science Fiction";
