CrashPlan vs Carbonite vs Dropbox

I was not impressed with Carbonite as the process of backing up your files off-site with their service takes a LONG... time. Any recommendation? Is Dropbox good enough although it's not really for backing up your files more than 50GB, or is it? I know Arq is a good choice, but I'm not buying it.

The main advantage I see over a service like DropBox or PogoPlug Hardware, is that your files are in your own hands (Unlike DropBox) and no MetaData is generated (like PogoPlug). Also, if you buy two of them, they will keep the same content on both if you'd like (Something that costs extra for PogoPlug). They also have the awesome DropBox folder functionality that will consistently sync the folder with your Transporter (PogoPlug also lacks this). It isn't cheap... but it really is a one time price which is pretty nice.

I purchased two of them with no HDD's and I'm just going to buy two 500GB harddrives. That will be enough for all of my projects and my pictures. I don't store a ton of digital files (movies, music, pictures) so 500 GB will do.

For online backup, I use Backblaze (http://backblaze.com/). I've been pretty happy with them but this is strictly used as backup.

There's also mozy and ibackup.

I've been looking into secure, private backup with no monthly fees and folder sync functionality like dropbox. If that's what you're looking for, I highly suggest looking into transporter.

I've heard good things about backblaze as well.

@Ernest - Transporter sounds like someone wanted to make a system that works like Crashplan but sell as external hard drive to make money off of the idea.

@James, I'm not sure if it's really similar to Crashplan (all of these backup cloud services are melting together). But, I'll take a one time fee anyday. And the option to buy a transporter with no harddrive is awesome. I can load it up with any HDD my heart desires.

@Ernest - Crashplan syncs your data to your friends computers for free, no external hard drive required.
