if ( isset( $username ) && $role != 'admin' ) {
echo "You do not have access to this page. Please contact your administrator.";
}
You need to use the isset() function to check if the $username variable is set, and the negation != operator to check that the $role variable is not equal to the string admin, as you've already done.

15,028 PointsThis won't work, because the condition is checking if either $username or $role is not equal to 'admin'. Plus, the string admin isn't enclosed in quote marks. The code I posted is exactly what you need :-)
