Crowdfunding WebApplication Advice?

Quick question about a complex topic...I am trying to help a forming non-profit organization build a web application for needy people. It is to be like a kickstarter for the needy featuring needy people instead of projects. I know I could design the database from what I've learned on MySQL and code the application in PHP but I see this taking quite a while, I've looked around online for some open source projects like what I'm trying to do but the closest match is all documented in Spanish and I only speak/read english. Does anybody have any pointers on how to help QUICKLY build this web application?

I've involved in a crowd funding effort and I would suggest the easiest thing is to use one of the existing crowd funding platforms. What was unique about the open source application in spanish? http://www.gofundme.com is specifically about people's stories than projects.

http://crowdsunite.com can help you filter all the services out there for your needs. If there's still a compelling business reason they want to launch and host the platform on their own there are many crowd funding plungins for Wordpress that will do what you need out of the box.

Scott, thanks for answering my question. I appreciate your input very much and that was my initial input to the group but they are very set on the fact that they want to develop their own platform, they had already registered their own domain prior to us meeting and they are determined to move ahead with building a platform. Really the open source project was "Designed to crowdfund projects aiming for the greater good, with an open and free nature" and for reference its name is GoTeo and is hosted on GitHub.
