CSS: Adaptive Layouts, how do you know which percentages to use?

Just finished watching the video for media queries and adaptive layouts. In one instance the professor uses a width percentage that goes something like this: 65.38389723%

How does he know the exact number to add in in the percentage? is there a cheat-sheet somewhere?

He probably used a calculator, I know I dis when the numbers started getting too big to do in my head.

just because its a test doesn't mean your restricted from using tools outside the program.

I had the same question, it was answered in this post.
