not sure why my data variable would not contain the right information

You just have a typo.

import re

file_object = open("basics.txt", encoding="utf-8")
data = file_object.read()
file_object.close()

# You've got an 'r' before 'Four' here.
first = (re.match(r'Four', data))

It's much easier to spot typos in other people's code. Happy coding!
