datetime minute

This returns "expecting 7, got -53".

There is a clue in the error: 7 + 53 = 60. That is, does your code handle the case where the two datetimes cross an hour boundary? You will need to look at the larger time, convert to a net difference in seconds, then convert the result back to minutes.
