Dear All, where should I start?

Hey everyone! I am currently working as a Project Manager in the Web Development company. I really like creating and supporting web sites, however I want to become an expert, who is going to design, program and launch the web site on some kind of CMS on my own. That is called WebMaster I guess. Therefore I started Wed Design course, then switched to Front End, then decided to have a look ad Logo/Brandinng basics and totaly got lost) Now I don't remember anything!(

Please suggest! I guess I really need to start with Design, branding, Photoshop, etc... Then work on Html+CSS+Javascript and then have a look at Wordpress development. Should I follow the Cources only, or Finish some courses + Library videos? I really need a full workflow of my learning process.

Please help! Thank you very much!

Well there's no real hard answer to that question as.. i can atttest do, we all learn in a different way, so what works for one person may not work for someone else.

So let me tell you what works for me and hopefully this will inspire you to think about a workflow that could work for you.

  • I follow the courses
  • I take notes on each video, one time just listening to the teacher and again writing down the main points
  • Take a look at the teachers notes for extra reading and important links
  • Practice your skills in a real world project. Or at the very least your own project for fun/practice.

Put in the hours and it will start to come together.

In my opinion at first you should start learning basics about HTML, CSS, JS, jQuery following Front-End Web Developement, the more you know about programming a websites the easier it's gonna be with learning CMS. If you would like to start with Wordpress I suggest you to start PHP courses aswell. Finish your courses, besides courses do something on your own, think about some projects you want to make and try to make them or ask someone to give you an idea for a projects.

And remember that the best practice is to spend at least 1h daily working on something to master your website programming skills. ;)

web design track to learn the basics

Front end track to learn JavaScript

Then Wordpress development to learn Wordpress and php.

Fight through. Some of it gets hard and confusing but the more you practice the better you will be. Once it clicks ask some co workers for small projects to get your feet wet. Complete the tracks in full. Treehouse does a great job at setting up these tracks. When I went on my first developer interview and they asked About working with AJAX I was able to talk about it because I completed the track. Those shorter videos in the track are sometimes the most important.

Thank you guys! Will re-think about my learning wokflow)

I'm in almost the same boat. Wordpress is what I want to learn but starting from the back end seems so confusing to me. All the setting, etc. I wish I could start with the basics and then get into the meat of the program. I feel like I'm trying to learn how to build a car when all I really want at first is to learn how to drive it first.
