HTML

Definitely doing something wrong here but can't figure it out!

I'm currently on the "Add a New Page" lesson and I copied all of my HTML code from index.html to about.html (as instructed) and I have seen a problem.

It was just a simple copy and paste but now, my home page (index) is showing in the browser as having a white border at the top, which I remember removing in the CSS previously, also the h1 font is adhering to its designated Google Font selection and the images in the portfolio and no longer behaving as a 'Float'.

Oh, and the social media icons in the footer, although centered and not interfering with the images on the page, are back to being twice as big again.

How could this all of changed with just a copy and paste and not be outlined in the accompanying video?

I'm racking my brains thinking if it could be something to do with the CSS and needing to do an edit there somewhere but I'll open it to the floor for some help from you guys!

Cheers.

Kay, Ashley.

I forked your Workspace and everything is where it should be. I previewed it, and all the CSS is being applied correctly. Your home page (index.html) rendered as it should, as did your about page.

So, this time, it must be something on your end. Make sure your Workspace is saved and try refreshing the preview. If that doesn't work, try clearing the cache and then refreshing. Maybe log out - quit the browser - relaunch and log back in. If that doesn't work ... then I'm stumped because it all looks the way it's supposed to when I preview it (Good work by the way ).

If nothing works... try clicking on the snapshot link you provided. Click the "Fork Snapshot" in the upper-left. Make sure you save it with a different name. And preview from that one.

Somehow I think you've just encountered a weird glitch.

Try giving us both bits of code to make sure what you have and if we can spot anything.

Ok then.

Before I do, is there any particular way of putting code here or is it literally a case of copying and pasting both parts into this box?

Might be a stupid question, I know.

Hey Ashley,

Did you move the index.html file from the root position it was in prior to the copy/paste (in the project files)? Or, maybe moved the CSS file? It sounds like the URL path for the CSS file is no longer valid and the page is reverting back to the browser defaults.

:dizzy:

Hmm, I'll have to check that.

When you say 'move', are you referring to where the file is situated in the left-hand side menu within Workspaces?

Yes. On the left hand (I call it the 'file tree').

index.html needs to be in the root (not inside any other folder than the main project folder).

You're best bet for putting code here for this issue is to take a Workspace Snapshot. In the top-right-hand corner of your Workspace, there will be an icon that kind of looks like a camera. Click that and you will get a URL for the snapshot. Paste that url here and we can access your Workspace.

Ah right ok.

Well, I think index.html isn't within any other folder other than the project folder but here's the link:

As you can see, about.html is further up the tree but neither are within any other folder.

Dang it, such a pain when it's your end because you (being me) usually think of a 101 reasons it could be apart from just clearing your cache, logging out and restarting the browser.

It worked a treat Jason Anders and thank you once again. You are a mine of information and helpfulness!

You're welcome - and no worries. I'm just glad you got it all okay now.
