Do most people do PSD to HTML?

Do most people create on photoshop/fireworks first then create/slice onto html?

Good question. I would say it greatly depends on the complexity of the project. In some cases you might just need to draw a wireframe on paper and start coding, and in other cases you may need to have a more fleshed out structure and design.

Personally I have found creating PSDs helpful when designing projects for clients because it allows me to show them something nice really fast and then make quick changes.

I know I don't. Maybe it's because I'm a developer first and a designer second, but my best projects have come about by just getting in the code and designing from there. Right now, I'm redesigning my personal portfolio site and the only time I touched Photoshop to do it was to get a raster image of my logo that I created last year, though now that I mention that, I guess I might want to consider embedding a vector version too.
