CSS

Does anyone else ever feel overwhelmed by all the CSS we have to know?

I'm coming to the end of the css deep dive section. I've learned a lot from Nick, Guil, Teamtreehouse, and the Forum Community. I can make website pretty good, and know my way around CSS pretty well. I've made around 30 practice websites, I've never uploaded one live. I started to view the Responsive web design at the end of the CSS deep dive section, and got a little nervous. I practice all the time, and I love to design websites.

I just don't want to be the one guy at the office that everyone laughs at, or everyone thinks is a idiot. I'm kind of nervous that once I get a job my coding skills won't match up to everyone else's. Sometimes I forget simple html tags and css styles and have to look them up sometimes to remind myself what I have to do and use.

Does anyone else ever feel this way?

Honestly, you're in good company. It's perfectly natural to feel this way in a topic as deep as CSS. You'll find that unless you're a front-end developer, you won't retain more than the commonly used CSS. What is more important than knowing the complete CSS spec is understanding how to utilize it.

Throughout the course of your learning (and even on the job, because we're always learning), you can easily reference sites like this: Mozilla Developer Network: CSS to help out - and don't feel guilty about it!

Web development is a complex topic - we use many different tools to build web sites and web applications - so don't feel nervous that someone is going to laugh at you. Chances are, they don't know everything either (I know I certainly don't!) - and if they don't admit that - they're only fooling themselves.

Thank you for the comment ryorke.

Hi!

Don't worry. I work as a frontend developer and forget things all the time. Even the most experienced developers in my office forget CSS or HTML and have to google. The important thing is to have a good overview what's possible and know where to look things up.

Thank you Selwyn for the comment.

I am feeling the same and I am wondering do we go over more CSS stuff later , and are there project we and test out our skills on ?

There's two more new courses Guil teaches that have updated css styles for use. Check in the library for the updated courses. I plan on taking them after I complete the CSS deep dive I'm on.
