Does Anyone Else Feel Like They Learned Nothing When Creating Your First Website?

I've been learning HTML and CSS for around 4 months now. It was really fun. Then I tried to make a website for a friend. Wow. If you could see my code you would laugh in my face at how horrible it is. I pretty much wrapped a div over every paragraph and every header just to get it where I want it to go. Now I have a bunch of empty space at the bottom of my website and I've tried to fix that for about 1 and a half hours now, no luck. Was anyone else overwhelmed when making your first website. I feel like very discouraged when it's so hard just to position everything correctly.

Yes, at least for me the first websites I made were all about trial and error. It's one thing to learn the concepts and another to apply them. Just keep practicing and you'll find yourself getting used to it really fast. A good way to practice in my opinion is to just make some sites on you own. They don't have to be anything specific and you don't even have to host them on the web. If I think of a cool layout I try to make it from scratch and lookup anything I don't remember. It can be tedious at times, but well worth the payoff!

Nathan: I feel your pain. A first website is never perfect, but it is a great opportunity to test your knowledge and problem solving skills. Don't give up, which I'm sure you won't. You might want to post your code here in the forum if you're having difficulty. As I've experienced, there are many helpful members that would love to help you figure things out.

You just have to keep going, and keep building. Come up with some basic ideas and take some time to create them. You can even try to re-create other basic sites.

Just remember to do everything BUT give up!
