Does Treehouse have "projects" to work on? It would be really beneficial to apply my skills on a small project inside the TH workspace--an extended quiz of sorts with a large goal broken into smaller steps/phases.
Ex: Build a basic webpage for "____(fictitious)" product.
phase 1: create the page elements and DOCTYPE phase 2: page tables/layout phase 3: add (included) images phase 4: format/CSS.... (yes, these stages are probably all wrong, haha, but you get the idea)
This would be an AWESOME way to get people moving forward with momentum. Building a page from scratch in a code editor without any framework is a doable, but still very vague and prone to hangups. I know personally I work very well with a little guidance vs stop+go traffic :)

Have you been practicing your software skills, whether as a developer or a designer? One great way to hone your skillset and earn a reputation at the same time is to help out with open source projects - as you might guess from our little walkthrough, GitHub makes this process really easy. Look around on GitHub for any exciting open-source projects and find out if there's anything you can do to help - if there is, try to help out! Submit a pull request. Just be sure to follow any rules the project maintainer has set out, and don't get discouraged if the response is less than positive - not everyone on the internet is nice. Just keep at it until you find a spot where you can contribute, and remember that it might take you a little while to learn the ins-and-outs of the open source community.
Not sure where to start? Services like CodeTriage, OpenHatch and LookingForPullRequests can help you find places to contribute."

12,417 PointsThat would be great but you can make those projects yourself. Set a goal and go for it. You will make mistakes but that's how you learn. If you need to build up confidence before going forward with a project of your own, try codecademy.com. It's free and all about coding. I use it as a complement for treehouse.

3,239 PointsYou should take the portfolio website and build your own freelance website. Would be a great project to work on and at the end you can market yourself and your services to take on more website design projects.
Would be an ideal project to work on and guidance can be sought here or in other online forums like posted above.
