Doesn't API mean "Application Programming Interface", not "Advanced Programming Interface"?

it looks like it started out with "advanced" but is now more commonly known as "application" some people can't let go of the past. ;-)

I'll be darned, I never knew that. I've known it as "application" for at least a few decades.
