domain name and hosting

I want to get my domain name now, and then get hosting in a few months when I am ready, but I think it would be best to get the name and the hosting from the same place.

So can anyone point me in the right direction. I have been trying to research this, but I'm getting conflicting stories. First someone says a particular hosting service is great, but then I read a bunch of bad reviews. Not sure who to trust. So I've turned to my fellow treehousers.

Robert;

I would take a look in the Student Perks section to see if there is a business there that meets your needs. As I am sure you have discovered by now, with all of the information on the internet you can find negative comments about anything.

Some of the hosting decisions will depend on what language you prefer to code your site with and other such concerns. I have found that it is not too terribly difficult to purchase a host name from one vendor and utilize a different site for hosting. The urgency of reserving the name can vary, however.

Hope it helps, Ken

Thanks Ken. I forgot about the student perks. I'm headed there now. :)

I would not get my domain and hosting from the same place, simple reason being that in most cases it is a lot cheaper to get your domain say from a place like name cheap which I find to be the cheapest compared to say go daddy. Both of these sites offer hosting but they are not very good I would advise against them, Good hosting sites that I have used for my self and would recommend are the most reputable of them all I would say by far is hostgator there baby plan is good and you can pay monthly which is great because you are not locked into a plan if for any reason you are dissatisfied with the plan, other than host gator there is bluehost which is also very good the only downside to bluehost is you have to pay for the year upfront which if I remember correctly is about 80 dollars I think, either way it was cheap. Hope this helps.

thanks Anthony. I was already leaning towards a possible namecheap/hostgator combo. very helpful stuff. :)
