Hey everyone,
Just wanted to start a discussion on who the best and worst teachers are to guide new students into courses they will enjoy and understand. Iv'e found that the better the teacher the more I learn and enjoy.

9,095 PointsThe first course I chose was How To Build a Website with Nick Pettit. I thought he was excellent at explaining some basic HTML and CSS concepts while simultaneously helping you customize your own portfolio. If you're interested in having an online portfolio, Nick helps you create your own responsive site and gives you the ability to customize it to your own design preferences. My recommendation would be to add your own content as you go (even if you don't have any design work to show yet - you can just upload random pictures of yours). You won't have a complete grasp of HTML or CSS but you will have a solid foundation and the confidence to keep learning and adding to your skill set.
So far all of the teachers have been very informative and helpful. The material may vary in levels of difficulty but the lessons are designed to provide concise information. If you're unable to understand the concepts at first you can almost always catch on to the material with another viewing of the video lesson.
For a true newbie I would say How To Build a Website with Nick Pettit is a great place to start.

29,571 PointsThere is no best or worse teacher. And to call a particular teacher the 'worst' is rather insulting to them. You should rethink your title.
Each teacher has their own style and way of teaching. Not every student is going to enjoy learning from or click with every teacher. Everyone will have their preference of who they like and seem to learn more from.
In short, there is no 'worst' teacher.

5,492 PointsI understand your position however, what's wrong with positive critique? Or are you implying that there is nothing to be improved in the courses?
Robert Newman
29,571 PointsNo, not at all David. There is always room for positive critique and improve the courses. For instance some teachers talk to fast, or don't go in-depth enough. Or blocks of code appear out of nowhere at some stages.
I am saying that calling out a teacher as the 'worst' is not helpful or positive. I personally enjoy Pasan and his method of teaching. I would love it if he could do courses on CSS or PHP for example. But just because I prefer his style of teaching over another's does not mean they are a bad teacher or the 'worst' teacher.
